I turned this platter from Spalted Beech that had a very yellow colour to it and made me think of deserts and beaches, which gave me the idea to carve a tortoise on it. I have carved holes through the wood in places and used a pyrography kit to add detailing to create the picture of the tortoise.
The platter is approximately 345mm / 13.5" in diameter.
